THE OPEN
Saquon Barkley said the NFL made him sell his stake in Polymarket, 2 days after the NBA made Polymarket an official partner. Rod Wave started a sports agency and signed a 5-star Arkansas freshman 6 days before his first college game. Travis Scott's new single for Grand Theft Auto VI was produced by half of Daft Punk and is 1 of 6 released ahead of a 34-track original album that ships with the game on the 19th. Welcome back to The Closeout. Let's get into it.
THE LEAD
The Opposite Direction

Philadelphia Eagles running back, Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley, one of the most electric NFL running backs in the league, once owned equity in Polymarket. He no longer does.
Issue after issue, the operators in here are buying. Barkley had to sell.
He told Front Office Sports that the NFL made him give up the stake, because the league counts prediction markets as gambling companies and sends players a list before each season of what they are allowed to endorse and invest in. His account of it is 7 words. "I was in it before, but no bueno."
Nothing about the position was disclosed. Not the size, not the sale price, not the date. A 2025 report from The Profile put his total startup investing at upwards of $500,000 across everything he holds, Polymarket included. That figure covers all of it and is the only number attached to any of this.
On prediction markets specifically, the NFL applies the same answer to itself. It has no deals with Kalshi or Polymarket for 2026. Its 3 official sportsbook partners are DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics, and those agreements specifically do not extend to those companies' prediction-market operations. The league's stated reason for being in business with sportsbooks at all is that the relationships help it enforce the gambling rules it applies to players.
So the NFL takes money from 3 betting companies, carves out the part of their business it has decided is too close to the game, and tells Barkley to liquidate.
Two days before his comments went out, the NBA went the other way.
On October 26 the league named Kalshi and Polymarket preferred prediction market partners and DraftKings an authorized prediction market operator. Kalshi and Polymarket get NBA intellectual property including team logos, official league data through Sportradar, and marketing rights. The league signed a memorandum of understanding with the CFTC on the same subject. Kalshi's basketball straight bets have averaged more than $100 million a day since the season opened. Polymarket US has averaged more than $35 million.
Scott Kaufman-Ross, who runs media distribution and partnerships for the NBA, said protecting the integrity of the game is the league's top priority.
The difference between the 2 leagues is a number.
On February 5, the day of the NBA trade deadline, Giannis Antetokounmpo signed an equity stake in Kalshi through his company Ante Inc. Kalshi's spokesperson said the stake sits below 1%, which is the NBA's threshold for passive investment in sports betting companies. At Kalshi's $11 billion valuation, a full 1% would be worth more than $100 million. The exact figure has never been published.
While he owned part of the platform, Kalshi's market on his own trade destination took more than $23 million in volume. Kalshi says he is barred from trading NBA markets and markets about himself.
He still owns it.
In September LeBron James became the first NBA player to sign directly with Polymarket. Polymarket called it an exclusive partnership and released no terms. He plays for the 76ers, who on October 30 signed the first prediction-market deal between Kalshi and an NBA team.
Golf runs the same split. The PGA Tour told Front Office Sports that prediction markets are "not an approved category." Bryson DeChambeau became Kalshi's first athlete endorser in January. He plays on LIV.
Barkley and Antetokounmpo bought into the same asset class inside the same 12 months. Barkley filed a sell order. Antetokounmpo plays in a league that wrote the number down.

OFF THE STAGE
Signing Day

Rod Wave
On October 28, a sports agency called Mainstay announced it had signed Abdou Toure. Rod Wave, the rapper with 3 number 1 albums on the Billboard 200, launched the agency in August.
Toure is 19, 6-foot-5, and arrived at Arkansas this season as a consensus 5-star. He was Allen Iverson National Player of the Year, Connecticut Player of the Year twice at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, and he played for Guinea on the World Team at the Nike Hoop Summit. He committed to John Calipari in October 2025. Arkansas opened its season November 3. Mainstay handles his marketing and brand representation.
His most recent album, Nostalgia, was his fifth and it opened at 137,000 album-equivalent units. He records for Alamo.
The agency has an org chart. Ted Perlak is Chief Operating Officer. Ace Christian runs basketball operations. Ryan Darcey is President of Football Operations. Lou Taylor is Head of Family Office. The roster already includes Olympic triple jumper Will Claye, Houston signee Oneal Delancy, and high schooler Salim Diaby.
No stake was disclosed. No title for Rod Wave was disclosed. No terms on the Toure agreement were disclosed, and nobody has said what the agency charges or what it has signed in revenue.
Jay-Z started Roc Nation Sports in 2013 as an extension of a company he already owned. Mainstay is 3 months old and Toure has not played a college game.
Rod Wave records for Alamo. In August he started the company that signs other people.
THE DROP
Travis Scott x GTA VI
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19. Rockstar confirmed the date itself and apologized for the delay.
Travis Scott is on the soundtrack. "RHYNO" came out September 17, produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk, and it is 1 of 6 original singles released ahead of GTAVI: The Album, a 34-track record shipping with the game.
Retail listings point to something else landing the same day. Three Air Force 1 Lows under Cactus Jack, Scott's own label, with Rockstar Games and Nike, at $130 a pair. Leaked photos of the black pair show a reverse Swoosh, pink toe trim and pink stars across the sole.
None of the 3 companies has said a word.
Scott's song ships on the 19th either way. The shoes have 3 style codes and nobody's name on them.
WORTH A WATCH
Mike Levine on Boardroom Talks
Levine has run CAA Sports since 2006. It employs more than 1,400 people, talent representation is about 40% of the business, and margins run 29 to 30%.
His line is “we are evolving into becoming principal.” Principal means owning the asset. CAA has been charging a percentage of it.
He names Dwyane Wade as the blueprint, and points to franchise sales inside 12 to 24 months at the Premier Lacrosse League, which he backs. Boardroom reports he floated a 401(k)-style pool of league equity for players at the next round of collective bargaining.
Barkley had to sell a position this month. Levine’s pitch is that the next CBA hands players one.
P.S.
Mike Levine wants league equity written into the next CBA and handed to players like a 401(k). Would you take a piece of the league over a bigger check? See you next Wednesday.
